Early Childhood Care and Education
Our early childhood care and education programs provide young children aged three to six with high-quality and playful early learning, laying the foundation for success in school and in life.
Research shows that playful parenting and early learning sets children up for academic success and a healthy future. During the first few years of life, children’s brains develop at a rate of more than one million neural connections per second.
Playful and supportive relationships with trusted adults go a long way to building healthy brains, feelings of connection, and a love of learning. But many parents and caregivers don’t have the time, skills, or knowledge they need to support their children’s learning and development through play.
THRIVING YOUNG CHILDREN
In Uganda, the number of caregivers who say that their children have positive socio-emotional skills more than doubled from 21% to 46%.
We show parents and caregivers how to reflect their child’s emotions during play to strengthen their socio-emotional skills; how to use positive discipline to nurture feelings of safety and resilient relationships; how to let children lead play to boost their confidence and self-esteem; and how to use songs and games to nurture their children’s literacy and math skills.
We also train pre-primary teachers and early childhood educators in how to use play-based learning to equip children with skills and a love of learning they can carry into primary school.
