Emotional Well-Being
We provide children living in conflict zones or experiencing displacement with psychosocial support that helps them cope with trauma and get back to learning.
One in six children live in a conflict zone. 175 million children are expected to be affected by natural disasters each year. In crisis and conflict situations, children are often the first and most affected. The trauma and stress can have a lasting negative impact on their emotional well-being, development, and ability to learn.
Play can protect children from the negative impacts of traumatic events. It’s one of the best ways children process and express difficult emotions, find calm and control, and recover. Creating a foundation of emotional wellness gives children the best chance to handle life's challenges.
YOUTH CAN COPE WITH TRAUMA
Refugee and vulnerable children in Lebanon saw their distress levels drop by 70% following a music-based intervention.
We provide children with psychosocial support through school and community-based programs in fragile contexts and conflict-affected communities, respond to the needs of children in emergencies through the Children’s Emergency Fund, and help Indigenous youth in Canada access playful and safe spaces where they can connect to their culture.
