The Lombard Odier Group supports the protection, education and empowerment of refugee children in Uganda. With nearly 1.5 million refugees in the country, Uganda remained the largest refugee-hosting country in Africa and the fourth largest host country worldwide in 2021.

Ongoing conflict in South Sudan has displaced nearly two million people from the world's youngest state since 2013. Since its birth, the state has been mired in violence, forcing countless people to flee to escape arbitrariness, torture and killing. To date, over 965,000 people have fled to Uganda, 81% of them women and children (UNHCR, Refugee Statistics May 2021).

Right To Play works in Adjumani district, home to nearly 216,000 refugees (UNHCR, January 2021): to create a positive and safe learning environment for children and activate their self-confidence, Right To Play coaches use the power of sports and play for activities in and outside the classroom. This helps South Sudanese and local girls and boys build understanding for the harsh reality, learn tolerance and respect, strengthen their self-esteem and practice resolving conflicts peacefully. In this way, Right To Play contributes to multicultural integration, social cohesion and peace building.

The second part of the project focusses on the needs of children with disabilities. Thanks to the valued collaboration with the Lombard Odier Group and the generous donation, the continuation of the project work in Adjumani and its 33 schools is ensured.
